"Maintain" harbours eccentric twists and celebrates the simple, the awkward and the suffering - capturing the world of lost souls in down and out New Zealand.

Heath arrives on Missy's doorstep after years of the pair not speaking. In spite of his marriage mysteriously finished and his patronizing anger management classes in full swing, he brings with him the determination to make-over his monotone, alcoholic, promiscuous sister. Unmoved, Missy continues with her depressing, drunk life which Heath insists on gate-crashing. The siblings almost reach a thoughtful understanding when Missy's hurricane ex-boyfriend Brent decides to re-enter her life. With his niece strapped to his back, he is back for Missy's hand in marriage.

Fresh from a stretch in prison, Brent has turned over a new psychotic leaf and this time he wants to take Missy with him into 'The Future'. His competition Dr Keir, a well-known televangelist (and Heath's sadistic counselor) is Brent's first point of punishment.

As the crippled love birds try and start fresh, looking after the baby and forgiving each other for their intriguing past -- Heath is left on the sidelines innocently watching. Or is he?

These broken characters all fight it out as secrets start to reveal themselves and Missy and Heath slowly learn home truths about each other. So why is Heath convinced he's obese? Whatever happened to his wife? And what has been making Missy so miserable for all of these years?
