I'm a hugh Steve Earle fan but sometimes he needs to just shut his mouth, If you ask anybody that does not know much about him they will tell you that he is a redneck. He is trying to become a different person that he once was and I respect that but moving to New York City does not make you someone else. Like it or not his earlier music is the same as Skynard and I think his fans would prefer that he went back to that style of music, I know I would.

Also, I think the main reason he doesn't like them is political - he is a lefty and sees them on the right.

True he was being considered to join Skynyrd, but he has also said he did it because he was in a financial bind because of the drug use. At that point his career was tanking and he was about to drop out of sight because the dope was getting out of control. What he means here by saying they had common interest is that they did drugs together.

Its weird that Steve hates Skynard, But in the late 80s he auditioned to become there lead singer but was not hired. I know it sound like a bunch of crap but go back and listen what he says about they were working on something that did not happen that is what he meant If you don't believe me look it up.
