This little tune was written by Kentucky musician, Jean Ritchie, famous for bringing the mountain lap dulcimer out of the Appalachians and into mainstream American folk music. The song tells the story of so many, ourselves included, who have the mountains and rivers of SE Kentucky throbbing in each cadence of the rhythm of every single heartbeat, but had to leave the land and wonderful people for a sustainable income elsewhere...yet, to this day, "When I turn homeward, my heart breaks in song," and we'll never stop planning on the day when we can somehow return to our old Kentucky home. For now, "The mountain songs offer their wings to [our souls], to return to [those] high hills and mountians".

I have my own You Tube site now. I am sure you will like my user name!! Tell Mike he just missed out. What I said above under Sgt. Yates is so true to me. I have your DVD on my ZUNE and when one of your songs comes up my co-workers can't figure why I cry with joy!
You two are the Best.

Peggy and Annie, I have to wipe the tears from my face when I listen to you sing. The Dog is such a nice touch, that really makes it really the King household.
I so wish you two would make another DVD! I have about worn the first one out:
Love you guys!
