I get mail! Here I address why a biting parrot is an unhappy parrot.

  • That was really great! I have a cockatiel chick I got a couple of days ago and it is biting me all the time. He is only 8 weeks old so it doesn't hurt, just pinches, but I fear that if he persists this behavior as an adult, it will hurt. He does not give any signs of biting and appears to enjoy it a lot. Is there anything I can do, or is it just the personality? I would really love to have a bird that would play with me sometimes.

    Thanks

  • We are lucky our budgie does not bite, and never has (except the lips at the very beginning when we taught him to "kiss"): when he is "against" something, he goes into a veritable little temper tantrum, squeaking loudly and stomping his feet! We get the message!
