His name was Berry, not Barry. I remember hearing the news of his untimely death. His technique was way ahead of the times. Very few bassists were playing chords in 1970. Jaco Pastorius and Stanley Clarke, but they were only known in jazz circles. Jon Camp (bassist for Renaissance) was also doing this kind of stuff in the early 70's. But no one followed the lead guitar player like Berry. Listen carefully to his bass lines especially the live stuff and you'll hear what I'm talkinng about.

Watkins glen 1973 great show berry and Duane were there in spirit ask the 700000 fans their still talking about to this day

@TrucksStop The Fillmore closed June 27 of that year;it may be that show since the Brothers closed with Jake Geils.

Barry Oakley never gets enough credit for his wonderful ability to play base, complemtary to his brother, Duane. Not related? In spirit and soul they are. Yes, I know, his brother is also Greg.

Dicky Betts is a brilliant song writer and penned many of the Allman Bros. biggest hits including this one. He was also the pertect muse to Duane. They differed both in tone and style, but complemented each other like no other guitar tandem in rock.
Truckstop, I'm just curious if you know the date of this show...?
I'm looking to download the show and I can't find it anywhere.
Thanks!

Thanks so much! I actually found the show in it's entirety available for download on sugarmegs. Its called,
A & R Studios, NYC - 8.26.1971. Great performance! Also a good one to check out is, Stonybrook 9.19.71.
The precious few shows that were played before Duane passed were certainly the best. I've got about 60 live, Duane era shows!

This song is: "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" This is only about one third of the song, and this particular version is from a live radio show. The classic recording of this is on the amazing "The Allman Brothers at Fillmore East" -- that's a must own CD if you like Duane's playing.
The (Deluxe Edition) of the Allman Brothers "Eat a Peach" (Deluxe is very important, it has additional tracks) has another great version. Caution, can be habit forming.
