this looks really like a game, but i cant put my hopes up on that.

o.o...umm...can you please elaborate?

@Dragdamar Which is a perfectly acceptable way of playing RPGs. You just need to find a group that suits your tastes. I'm a DM that can run a pure hack and slash game as easily as a roleplay and intrigue focused one. The point I'm trying to make is that absolutely nothing is stopping me from running both kinds of games in 4th Edition, which lifae seems to wrongly believe.
-
@Dragdamar that may be true, but you have to agree with me that 4th is more about being strong, and 3.5 is more about being tactical because you are NOT all powerfull and have unlimmited spells as a wizard or such.

@Scrinoverlord Last group I played with where straight up hack and slash. The extent of role playing was giving the character a name that wasn't the player's.

@JoeyPsych All D&D has been about killing people and stealing their stuff. There has never been any other form of D&D. Play GURPS!

To be honest, I think how good 4e is depends on the group, same with any other game. I mean hell, I'm playing in an RM campaign at the minute, and while many aspects of the system suck, there are just as many good points. There are some things that strain the suspension of disbelief, like daily and encounter powers for martial characters, but no more than somehow forgetting how to cast a spell just because you've cast it already. But what do I know? I think D&D sucks regardless of edition...

@lifae I don't come across many players that focus entirely on power playing; even the most hardocore "slay and kill" players still had interesting quirks in their characters (collecting the heads from his enemies, verbally challenging everything with bravado, etc.) You must play with some extremely uninteresting players if you're under the delusion that you MUST play 4th Edition like WoW, and there's no room for roleplaying. Because there is. Huge room, actually.
@Shalekitty Yeah, actually having to manage your resources wisely and play cleverly sure did suck, glad they got rid of the need for player skill finally.

4th ed sucks simply coz it is focus on powerplay, not on roleplay. If you like bashing in skulls, but are bored otherwise, it's a fun game, but if you like to pretend you're a great mage or a thieving character and actualy ROLEPLAY it, than I recommend 3.5, which is not based upon combat alone.
