  • I love how you can hear the prompter -- like she was going to forget the words! One of the greatest Carmens ever, at least on disc...

  • I have a box set of this exact performance, with libretto and a poster booklet.

  • @VinylToVideo Thanks for the information! I had no idea such information was available online! Can't wait to read more!

  • @just1967me I got the information from the Met's online archives.

  • @VinylToVideo Hi! The post I just put up was to you! (I did not specify.) Thanks for your response to me!

  • My mom was thinking it was in 1949 that she saw Miss Stevens in Carmen at the Fox. My mom said she saw La traviata with Dorothy Kirsten and Carmen with Rise Stevens and I think she said La boheme in that same season. I'm VERY impressed by your knowledge of Atlanta/Met Opera history! Are you from Atlanta? There was an imfamous performance of Carmen in Atlanta where the costumes did not arrive and it had to be performed with the cast in formal-wear (I think the sets were there) prob 1952?

  • @just1967me Stevens appeared as Carmen at the Fox Theater in 1948 and again in 1952.

  • @dreystar16 Was it with Rise Stevens? My mom saw her in Carmen in a Metropolitan Opera tour in Atlanta...in fact I think everyone who ever saw Stevens has a vivid and very fond memory. My first introduction to opera was at age 4 when my mom played the LP recording with Stevens, and I have been an opera fan ever since!!!

  • An opera legend and a movie and television star that is the great RISE STEVENS.

  • My mother took me to a showing of this opera in1952, It was my first and I never forgot it. Never.
