There is a struggle going on for the future of the forests. The interests of the various parties involved in forest management are not necessarily the same and decisions made by the 'suit and tie' brigade may be bad for the indigenous peoples. At the grass roots it isn't about 'rights' or 'ownership', it's about co-existence with the forest and communities claim that they, not the markets or governments, are best at forest management. This is one of the Canopy of Friends video clips, created under the Growing Forest Partnership (GFP) initiative, aiming to stimulate debate on new ways to manage the world's forests.
Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina (World Forestry Congress, Oct 2009)
Interviewees: Delegates to the WFC including representatives of INGOs, financial institutions, governments, academia, business, civil society and foresters.
