I'm sure if they are of equal intelligence, the likelihood is slim. As they can constantly improve the algorithm, it will easily become only a game meant for humans ;]

its great and all.. but what would you use that for? im not being cocky or anything, i really would like to know what somebody would use this robot for

The applications for a robot like this are endless. Today you can find robots like this in many industrial and factory floor applications. As hospitals get more advanced, they will begin showing up there as well. As for the air hockey application, that was designed to be a cool Freescale demo.

This was not done on an FPGA. It was actually done using Freescale's Flexis AC microcontrollers (MC9S08AC128 / MCF51AC256). The MCF51AC256 is controlling the robot in the video.
