Some recent shots of Amtrak Coast Starlight #11 passing through Richvale, California. Both the south and the northbound Starlight trains usually hurry through this area under the cover of darkness. Southbound #11 normally streaks past this location around 4am, so it's always a treat when it is running this late. Severe winter weather in the Cascade mountains and Pacific Northwest is mostly to blame for the delays.

1/21/12: P42DCs 90 and 202, and the standard train consist including baggage car, transition crew dorm, 2 sleepers, pacific parlour, diner, lounge, and 3 coaches make up 11(20) as it hurries past Fruitvale Road at 11:17am.

1/26/12: 10:49am - Somewhat of a different, interesting consist; P42DC 95, Cascades F59PHI 470, transition dorm, 2 sleepers, CC cafe, diner, and 3 coaches make up 11(25). Amtrak 40th anniversary heritage P42 #184 in phase IV paint was supposed to be on the point of this one, but was held in Seattle possibly for touch up work after it struck a vehicle stranded on the right of way near King City, California on the night of the 23rd when it was leading northbound Coast Starlight train #14(23). I guess I'll have to take the Cascades unit as some sort of a consolation this time, as it is always entertaining to see one of those down here. I was able to catch this train at two separate locations in Richvale as it stopped to meet an opposing freight. The first location is at Fruitvale Road, and the other at Richvale Highway just south of Fruitvale.

  • Wonderful video!

  • @jagafoto Thanks!

  • Who is that guy at 0:02 who blocked and ruined your shot? that guy needs to be slapped and pushed out of the way, LOL!

    Epic intro!

Dang nice shots of the Coast Starlight!

At 2:00 I noticed you used the term "starlate".

The second Coast Starlight train is odd, it has a Cascades engine, no baggage car, and a jacked up train set.

Its interesting how the Amtrak Cascade F50PHI's are in the same number series as the Amtrak Surfliner F59PHI's.

  • I blocked and ruined my own shot.

  • @CoastStarlight11 Thx 4 the comments Jimmy.
