  • I don't think this tarnishes Andy's reputation. I would think most people have the brains to know Andy was just repeating what someone said, and not just randomly saying dirty words.

  • Tarnish his image? He couldn't get along with Aunt Bee, Elanor Donahue couldn't stand him, he went through about 73 people during the run of Matlock - Linda Purl went running for the hills (granted the one guy had some drug issues) sounds like he was a Grade A a-hole to work with and there are plenty of stories on the internet of how treated the average joes of the world like shit. If you want to believe that Andy Grffith was Andy Taylor to make your life make sense, fine, more power to you.

  • whats the big deal.....it wasnt like Sheriff Andy Taylor was eyefucking that girl, he was an actor following direction (and that sleazy leer he did at that girl pretty much summed up "fuck her") lol

  • southern demcrat for life.

  • Andy Griffith was a fun actor, but an activist Democrat, like everybody else who goes to Hollywood. You lose your moral compass there for sure.

  • LOL!! omg he just said 'fuck'! Not the most shocking thing in the world but you really dont expect Andy to say it. So funny. 5*****

  • Show me some footage of Fred Rogers telling Lady Aberline to suck his dick, and then we'll talk. until then, who cares?

  • Yes, he was quoting the direstor of the project.

  • Actually, I believe that is an urban legend. The actual word is derrived from an Anglican veriation of the Indo-European word "fuk" which means to strike. None-the-less, Andy is 100% a class act! He is a devoted Christian and good man. So was Barney (Don Knotts). May God Bless the man, and may He Bless us with a return of good, wholesome television entertainment that we once had.

  • torgman: I once read something similar to what you posted. I read something in college about it being of German origin. I thought I remember reading it derived from "fricken" (although not 100% certaom) which meant to strike. But that was so long ago.

  • Joseph88keyz: the OED states that the ultimate etymology of "fuck" is uncertain, but that the word is "probably cognate" with a number of native Germanic words with meanings involving striking, rubbing, and having sex. It first appeared in an Latin/English poem, "Flen flyys", written around 1475. Acronymic origins are mere urban legends; your and other acronyms were ever heard before the 1960s.
