We decided that we didn't want to buy any special tools, so we tried blasting them out with the air blower. Works great!

  • Dont forget to put in a small board to cushion the impact and keep fingers away. Also, some pistons require a allen wrench or piston socket for removal.

  • The first time i ever did that, the piston shot around 15metres and narrowly missed a window of a customers car!

  • where can i get one of those???

  • @h8ryj I believe it . I rebuilt my caliper today. The piston was stuck, so I too blasted it with compressed air @120 psi. Didn't budge. I had to wiggle it around and then try the compressed air again to remove it. It finally came out. FYI using 120 psi to remove a 2 inch piston will impart about 420 lbs of force. 420 lbs !!!

  • hahahahahaahaha

  • OUCH! Save your piston from damage by using a small board (like femfeather mentioned) where the piston will smack up against. I use a work glove or rag myself (whatever I can reach the easiest (lazy bastard that I am).

If you end up denting the edge of the piston when it hits like that it will in turn damage the cylinder.

  • It does work!!!!! Saved me from a lot of bad words!!
