the Alnico III pick ups that are in the highway one sss strats are some of the most tone versatile pick ups fender has put in theres strat in years! i compare the Alnico III pick ups to the classic original 1969 pick ups and the 1977 to 1982 fender single coil X-1 pick ups hands down!

@sumljivi the best sounding/tone versatile/sustain that goes for ever and old school feel the 2007 highway one sss strat is the only way to go. jimi hendrix would have loved these highway one sss strats with out any doubt!

The body makes a slight difference. but the main sound comes from pickups. Hwoeever these days you canot go wrong with USA Fenders, even the lates guitars made in Mexico are starting to sound like the old ones.

i have a 95 62 reissue, MIJ.
the basswood body kicks ass.
really lightweight, easy on the back
mine has custom shop pickups, can get all sorts of sweet john mayer tones if thats what you're into.

but the body is basswood not alder...do you think it makes a difference?
