@wifeofsherlock No, for evening wear at home she was appropriate. The evening wear of the 1880/90s was very decolletage. If she were to go out, of course she'd have a cape, capelette or large stole. Day wear, another matter all together.

Thank you. When she gave him the gold sovereign, she charmed him -- in the orignal sense of the word. "Oh sir, let us call it a little souvenir." She displayed a nobility and graceousness that the king never did. That's why Holmes snubbed him because he had snubbed Watson. Holmes was arrogant and cold blooded, but he had a sense of justice and fair play.

@waterpimpernell I'm pretty sure being asexual doesn't mean you can't read sexual body language, it just means you don't respond to it in a sexual way. You can see how it affects others without being similarly affected yourself. Kind of like how a straight female can watch a music video and say, "Wow, that girl has a great body and that dance is really sexy" without being sexually aroused by it.
Anyway, no matter what Holmes is, we know he always puts the mind before the body.

IRENE! Your dress is FAR too low cut for a respectable woman of the late 19th century.

oh, how I love this episode!
Only Holmes would snub a king. And gets away with it.

Always wondered how Holmes would have reacted to Watson's description of his relationship with Irene.
