I swear I've heard two versions of this: This one has the drum fill into the last verse going a few extra awkward hits, the other cuts it tighter. The only times I've heard it on an actual 45, it was always this version, but the other was obviously Otis with the same band & style of production. Any clues?

it was probably the Magic Sam version. It Is very close to this and was issued also on Cobra Records #5013.

Great song and good youtube transfer. Dylan knows which songs to rip off.

Oh, I should have done this on the reply thing. Several alternate takes on things like the Cobra CD box set.

ml s: this is out on CD sets with multiple alternate takes. Maybe you heard some of those. (I only have it on the Cobra box set.)

Legit one of the best songs that I've ever heard. Although I'm a blues fan, it irritates me that there are so many songs in the genre that sound the same. But this song is different. The guitar is awesome, the piano is awesome, the drums are awesome, the bass is awesome, the vocals are awesome and the style is fantastic. I don't know why I hadn't heard of Otis Rush before.

I've heard other versions that were recorded later in his career. the two I'm thinking of sound virtually identical, as if they were two takes at the same session.

Some of Clapton's solos are nearly note for note copied from this tune. Of course, he was also a big copier of Albert King and others. I still love Clapton though, he has done a lot to popularize blues and has been faithful and respectful in his portrayal of old blues styles; he knows that he owes a lot to them.

Hunh? Perhaps you mean Otis should have had a suit against early Fleetwood Mac? This predates "early" Fleetwood Mac by 10 years or so. The Brits brought this music back to the states, thankfully. but they learned it from the recordings of Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Muddy Waters, BB King, Howlin Wolf, T-Bone Walker, Little Walter and a host of others. This is original American music, not some Fleetwood Mac tune.
