Here's Part 2 of an interview segment from AM Chicago on WLS Channel 7, in which host Steve Edwards interviews the legendary morning drive team of Dick (Sainte) and Doug (Dahlgren), who were fired from WCFL AM 1000 on March 12th 1976 midway through their air shift, after talking too much about that station's change in format from Top 40 to beautiful music (they had been explicitly forbidden to do so by WCFL's general manager, Lew Witz). In this part, they speak of various other radio personalities in different cities and how they were fired, and in Dick & Doug's case, how they learned of their firing from WCFL through an article by Gary Deeb; also mentioned was the previous day's Saint Patrick's Day Parade on State Street, and Larry Lujack is mentioned as still being part of 'CFL (though his last day on the air there was March 15th). Dick & Doug also go through Steve's horoscope (reading horoscopes was a part of their show). At the end of this part is a super text: "monday...the zany antics of Marty Allen."

NOTE: This broadcast was originally in color, but captured on an early home videotape recording in black and white. There are also some tape-tracking problems that are noticeable at certain points on this clip.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, March 18th 1976 during the 9am to 10:30am timeframe.

The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the
preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s
and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels;
footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved
digitally.  Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we
preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs
with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical
purposes.  For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or
lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 3,700+ (and
counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please

  • That is some serious hair.

  • Wow flashback 76 I was 18 & remember these guys...

    but didn't WLS pick them up after the WCFL canning? WLS & WCFL were the biggest stations for Chicago at that time...rivaling was big between the 2!

    Lujack was a great DJ but a back stabbing jerk in his life!
