@samuraifugitivo Nivas were conceived as military vehicles, with not a single aesthetic factor on its engineering but pure practical design. I wish there were a version with only a better engine (something more contemporany, with at least dual overhead camshafts multivalve with variable valve angle)

Ive seen a similar test. An stock niva won against many cherokees, rubicons, fj cruisers, land cruisers, mitsubishis pajeros and so on on ICA desert, PERU (actually my best friend was driving the niva, and you know what? all the time without connecting the double traction! (he forgot to). Why?, first of all, stock tires (very narrow with a sort of military drawing that blew off the sand), very light (the contendors are pretty heavy) and short distance between rear and front axle
