The Old Track in Mount Van Hoevenberg, outside of Lake Placid, NY was known throughout the bobsled and skeleton world cup circuit as the most dangerous and fearsome track in the world. The majority of the non US athletes to slide this track, posting a fast time was not the objective - their hopes were to survive the race, and come away without any major injuries. In the sport of skeleton, this track is legendary.

  • I might have just been smoking crack at the time but I heard recently that skeleton has a lot fewer injuries than the luge. I can't imagine how it is possible.

  • I can't comment on your drug use, but only one known fatality and it was a very freak accident (a bobsled was being unloaded and slid into the track in front of an oncoming skeleton sled). Lugers tend to take flight when they crash (like the one in Vancouver) which opens lots of ugly options. The people you see here had a lot of huge bruises and some minor breaks.

  • WTF.....this track is obviously complete shit

When just about ever fucking racer almost wreck you know it is a problem with the track.

  • @wiseman85 ---- These are the worst crashes, if you saw nothing but NASCAR wrecks, you would not thing that is all there was? It was a tough track, though

  • Had the good fortune to slide Hoevenberg in a 4-man bob back in the 70s! Zig-Zag was RIPPER! Bobsleigh is a definate life highlight. But if skeleton had been an Olympic sport back then I'd have been hooked.

  • Lol where was that?

  • Is that a skeleton suit at 3:31? Nice :)

  • I slide luge. I'll stay where I am, thank you. I like to steer ;-)

  • My dad was a bobsledder and crashed in 2 came up right in zig zag and got2nd

  • This is nothing you should have seen it before they shortned the track. I was a bobsledder and slid on the track 80-87. People would crash in turn two.

  • ZIG ZAGGING..never knew people actually could zig and zag in a sport...

  • Thats funny,

The one with the green helmet at 1,08 thats me! Laughing with my icehockey protection..! First all the others had to laugh, but on the finish they were begging me to use the suit! Good memories!! Would'nt have missed it for the world!

  • @RealPolyester its also because it is easier to go out of control on a luge sled (luge is more technical where as skeleton is more athletic) as well as luge you can easily break an ankle because of how your sitting

  • GOD this looks like FUN!
