grouse hunting is fun. the best part is they dont jump until your about to step on them lucky you got a dog. also !GO WISCONSIN! escpecially the northern part
One of my dogs has trouble going too far ahead, but it ends up being pretty effective. He goes like 10-15 yards ahead, then he goes off the road like 15-30 yards, then he actually back-tracks like 5-10 yards, then he comes back to the road.
So, he ends up going past grouse, then goes around them, then jumps them out TO the road instead of going straight to them from the road and jumping them off the road like my other dog does.
true, more fun to shoot them through the air though. Yeah bird dogs can be annoying if they are not well trained. Mine... are not, lol. If they get too far ahead you are screwed, but if they don't go more than 5-8 yards ahead of you they are fine.
Bird dogs ,to me ,are just anoying. Here in New Brunswick, most of us hunt partridge without the use of dogs.We hone our hunting skills on small game...Spotting camouflaged game takes practice and skill...then,when we take to the woods for deer,we are able to spot the game and move around without being detected.
Real- world hunting skills involve a lot more than pulling a gun to your shoulder after someone or something else has done all the actual hunting for you.
im about to go grouse hunting for the first time near Hayward WI!!!!!!!! I'm so pumped like my 12 gauge............good shooting everybody
