Green Day and U2 perform Wake Me Up When September Ends, The Saints Are Coming, and Beautiful Day at the New Orleans Super Dome for the Super Bowl XXXVI (36)

The song's lyrics about storms and drowning came back to light after the events of Hurricane Katrina. In September 2006, it was announced that Green Day and U2 were to record a cover version of the song for charitable purposes.
To coincide with the U2 and Green Day recording of the song, both bands performed it live during the Monday Night Football Pregame show of the New Orleans Saints versus Atlanta Falcons game on September 25, 2006. This was the first game in the Louisiana / New Orleans Super Dome since it was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
The live performance of the song was later sold online to benefit Music Rising, a charity created by U2's The Edge in order to bring instruments and music programs back to New Orleans.

Not being funny.. Green Days 21CB tour last year sold out every stadium they visited.. I was at the Wembley Concert and they don't exactly have a small fanbase. Green Day is a different genre of music to U2 and have different fanbases. You prefer U2 I prefer Green Day. It's a matter of opinion, U2 just have more mainstream music than Green Day

@canadagreenday U2 has been around much longer then Greenday, and they are popular world wide. U2 is the better band, by far. Could Greenday sell out stadium concerts? 80K people? Like U2 does? Nah. I love Greenday too, but they are not U2.
