  • The female singer is Nell Carter. I think this version of the song might be the best version in that it possesses the speed and vitality that the song requires from the singers. However, I think the bizarre Laurence Welk band instruments in the backgroud distract from the edginess and unrefined style of the song.

  • @gastabullo Great point. The bass playing is nothing less than brilliant on this soundtrack. Obviously there's a lot of soul influence but at the same time, the soundtrack clearly paved the way for Funk music which took off shortly around 1969-70. You have a good hear to have picked up on the bass.
