  • theatre of hate go way back to the original punk era when they were called the pack. deifnatley punk rock

  • @ImAsMadAsHell The Pack was a former band of ToF frontman Kirk Brandon.

  • There really isn't a difference between Post-Punk and Goth Rock. But most of the bands of the time consider themselves Post-Punk now because of the negative connotation the Goth genre got. In the 90's when the media starting putting the Goth tag on Industrial and Metal bands (Manson, Zombie, Slipknot, etc...) a lot of the Goth pioneers, like Peter Murphy and Robert Smith, claimed "they were never Goth". But Gothic Rock, Post-Punk, and Bat Cave pretty much go hand in hand.

  • Good song! Thanks for posting it! and can everyone shut up and just enjoy the music :p

  • I frankly think that bands like Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen and other bands that kids are starting to call post punk are more goth for their diversity of dark subject matter as opposed to today's narrow minded obsession with vampires and nightmare before christmas. Having to wear all black all the time to prove you're part of a scene just seems uncreative and self concious.

  • Post punk is a really new term used by today's young people to make destinctions about an era they wouldn't be able to understand without being there. I know it's hard to imagine after growing up with hot topic and marylin manson, but this is what goth was.

  • Or ... if you could imagine them with a healthy tan, they're not goth

  • Another way to tell is to listen to them :-)

  • GOTH Cure Sex Gang Children Bauhaus Alien Sex Fiend Sisters of Mercy

POST PUNK Killing Joke (despite the make up) The Fall Theatre of Hate Echo and the Bunnymen Wire

Which brings us onto the Damned, Southern Death Cult, Siouxsie and the rest who kind of began before goth but helped goth on its way a bit...

  • I've seen on other videos people getting very angry about whether Theatre of Hate are "post punk" or "gothic"... it doesn't really matter but my tip to tell the difference there are some handy hints to tell goth bands from your post punkers

    GOTHS

    a. Did they wear make up ( girly style )

    b. Did they wear fishnet ( on any part of their body )

    POST PUNK

    a. Were they EVER seen in a checked shirt with rolled up jeans

    b. Did they ever have a flat top?

..with that in mind ToH = post punk
