The main innovation in narrative to watch for here is cross-cutting, an editing technique that cuts between two lines of action that occur simultaneously.

  • @CommanderGrog exactly!

  • this is not the cross-cutting version

  • Thanks for sharing! Great film considering the time it was made

  • Thanks to share

  • Portes is not responsible for the cross-cutting, since this version is the cut Lewis Jacobs made in the 1930s. He cut scenes he thought to be unncessary for the understanding of the plot. In the original edit of 1903 the action is shown from the inside and then again from the outside and was meant to be shown with commentary in the nickelodeons of that time.

  • porter was also the first to show an close-up in his film, i am studying media and i hve to write about people who started filming techniques.

  • maybe the first masterpiece of telling a whole story by film editing

  • thanks for posting!

  • all right! shows the event of continious film editing at its best in 1903!
