Why must the government come and save me from my economic condition. Poverty is a choice. A choice I decided not to make by saving every penny I made from fast food jobs, and started a 45K a year business. I ran away from poverty. Rather than spending all my money on Ipods and stupid waste. I see "poor" people living more luxurious lives than I do. Stop with the sympathy.
It seems that every time the United States government declares war on an idea or concept, billions of dollars are spent on the rationale that an idea or concept can be defeated in any conventional sense.
doesn't "Literally the only good thing president Johnson did" imply exactly what you're saying then? War = bad...Civil Rights & Healthcare = good....Logical conclusion...should have been no war, but keep the social programs...AKA EXACTLY WHAT HE IS SAYING.
you're going to point at the civil rights act, the voting rights act & the social security act & claim fiscal irresponsibility when a 133 billion dollar war was being waged?
i think SecularTalk's focus on LBJ was more about signing The Civil Rights act, the Voting Act and the Social Security act...those things, no doubt being HUGE steps in the right direction and no doubt had an overwhelmingly positive effect to lessen poverty and get closer to social justice. That being said, i understand your point as well.
Anyone who remembers LBJ's social programs of the mid 60's, knows they were ineffective. Johnson's "guns and butter" policies exploded the size of the federal government and increased the national debt through the Federal Reserve exploding the supply of fiat money. John McCain knows as much about the economy as a hog knows about Christmas, but to use LBJ as a comparision is ludicrous. Until we become financially responsible, the numbers of poor will increase to include the middle class.
