This is my 4 month old cat, Mikan.
He's my second Oriental Shorthair and as you can see, he's red spotted tabby.

  • I mean Oriental Shorthair, as in the registered breed.

Here in europe, SIamese, Oriental Shorthair, Ori Longhair, Balinese are considered variations of the same breed, you can find them all in one litter since they are variations of pattern, eye and coat color but the exact same shape and temper.

The modern type SIamese is the mother breed if you will, wich itself originated in Thailand and has been selected throughout generations to create this particular look.

  • in America, the siamese cat group has lots of different breeds depending on the color of the points but they are the exact same cats.

Burmese, Tonkinese, etc have been created by mixing the siamese pattern with other breed.

The chubby normal looking siamese are just random cats with a siamese pattern (colorpoint and blue eyes) but they are not recognized as purebreed siamese.

You can find the colorpoint pattern in many animal species but you wouldn't call those animals siamese cats either.

  • Mikan is beautiful, what are orientals like to own? i have a persian but would love an oriental too one day x

  • Orientals are mostly people-oriented cats (especially Mikan compared to my other one). They can be very loud but the good side of their talking habits is that they're present, here with you.

My Ori are always searching for cuddles, they're litteraly screaming for attention.

At first I was afraid to get one because of their "strong personality" but it's the kind of cat that is a member of your family and that really wants to fit in this family.

They're all loving and they're really funny.

  • when you say oriental do you just mean its one of the Asian breed cats like Siamese and Burmese? I just ask because there is actually a breed called oriental and many people get confused. I just want to know if your cat is the oriental breed. Thanks
