Billy goes to London in search of information about his parents.
Mr Whitaker objects to carol singers.
I think this episode fits somewhat awkwardly in the series. The first episode establishes a good plot to go on with, and now Billy is in a totally unexpected situation which doesn't quite seem to fit or to get the viewer any further on. I think William Corlett intended to flesh Billy out a bit in this episode. to show that he was more than just a posh public schoolboy (as well as developing various themes) but it can be a bit off-putting. To anyone who is interested in watching Barriers for the first time - keep going is my advice. In the next episode, Billy is in Germany talking to someone who knew his mother and who has secrets of her own.
It's quite a good episode and from an overall perspective makes sense dramatically. But it can put you off at this early stage.
l remember this from years ago, thanks for the postings.Shame more TV shows from then weren't kept so they could be put onto tape or DVD.
