@mwirt Oh! That makes sense! Thank you! :)

@PrincessSearrah i had a similar thought and came to the conclusion that the family married into royalty with the Willie fellow. i like that interpretation in that it is all the more desirable to the sisters being the object of his love

one thing I am confused is that in the beginning the father is a farmer but afterwards he is a king?
I am not criticising this song. I love loreena, and have all of her CDs :)

" ... with a mecka-lecka-hi-mecka-hiney-ho!

may be her father is the king of farmers.

In the lyric he is the farmer and not pointed out that he is a poor farmer..may be you are right..?but if she is married how her husband left her alone with out security?but at first she is the daughter of a farmer and at last she is assuming that her father and mothers-in-law are her father and mother.but the tune and the singer who sang is extraordinary.

It's pretty cool how Loreena is Canadian, or rather has lived there since 1981, yet appears to still have a bit of an Irish accent (her parents were Scottish and Irish). Anyway, VERY cool song! Always liked it! :)

I like the live version of this song. Loreena McKennitt is fantastic though. Does not matter what she does.
Original is "Two Sisters" by Clannad.

Great song but what kind of weirdo makes a harp out of a dead person?
