The certification is a unique, integrated approach to working directly with the body's subtle energies for spiritual growth and wellness on all levels. You'll learn to teach powerful transformational techniques that no other yoga tradition offers. And you'll learn to go beyond techniques, into yoga as a complete way of life.

Our Level 1 and Level 2 programs are registered with Yoga Alliance and 200 and 500 hours. Every Ananda graduate can register with the Alliance as "Registered Yoga Teacher." We believe that, in time, this Registry will lead to more yoga teaching opportunities for you. More important, Ananda's is the only training in the highly regarded yoga tradition of Paramhansa Yogananda. We've spent more than 25 years making our YTT into a first-rate expression of that tradition -- a dynamic blend of professional training and personal growth.

A highly respected spiritual teacher around the world, Swami Kriyananda founded Ananda, which means "joy" in Sanskrit, in 1968 to fulfill Yogananda's vision of "World Brotherhood Colonies," or spiritual cooperative communities. Swami Kriyananda created The Expanding Light to provide a place where the public could come to share in the love, peace, and wisdom Ananda has to offer. Ananda Yoga brings hatha yoga back to its original spiritual essence. Ananda Yoga® is designed to integrate and harmonize all levels of your being: physical, mental, and spiritual. Above all, it seeks to raise your level of consciousness by reinforcing the natural effects of certain special bodily positions (the yoga postures) on your state of consciousness.

Ananda Yoga comes from the renowned Raja Yoga/Kriya Yoga tradition of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi. Yogananda was the first great master of yoga to make his home in the West. Ananda Yoga arose from his teachings and was developed into a definite system of practice by his close, direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda, the founder of Ananda.
