A study of the description of Abigail in Act 1 of the Crucible which says "an endless capacity for dissembling".

This study looks in depth at the different faces of Abigail Williams in the opening act of the Crucible. The next video will go on to study the way she behaves in the courtroom when she manipulates the girls and stands up to Judge Danforth.

@weijoshual It could be any one of a number of things. Unfortunately we're never allowed to know that. Maybe because Miller felt it would remove some of the symbolism embodied in Abby.

I thought "an endless capacity for dissembling" meant that she is the type of person to wreck things, for example she attempted to destroy John and Elizabeth's marriage to be with John. :/ I suppose it can mean different things because I did agree with you.

We have to read this in class, and we all have characters to read for. I am Abigal beacause I wanted to be, but that was before realizing she is a backstabber and she uses others weaknesses as her advantages. :/ Oh no! I have to play her for the whole book!
