"One Thousand Violins were a sixties-influenced indie-pop group from Sheffield, Yorkshire, who had several UK Indie Chart hits in the late 1980s.
The band was formed in 1985 by Darren Swindells (bass), Colin Gregory (guitar), John Wood (vocals), David Warmsley (keyboards/guitar), and Peter Day (drums).

  • Brilliant to find such an awesomely underrated band on here... I was lucky enough to know Colin way back then......

Although I was in a Goth band at the time I appreciated the sculptures that 1000 violins cast...and I still have the records to prove it....

So sad that Dave was taken at such a young age.....

We'll catch him at some stage I suppose when we all jump aboard the "LOVE MOBILE"...

  • This was written in Colin's room at Fylde College, University Of Lancaster, back in 1985. It's was originally called "To Make Your Tea".

  • @wildswan66 The original version of the song was called "To Make Your Tea" and was soooo much better.

  • @miseryguts36 I love this band too, but I would like to know which the best mix of this song is or where it is included.

  • Terrible mix of a great song. My favourite band ever. Saw them 19 times and had some great times with them.

  • Does anybody know where I can get the lyrics for this song? Thanks!

  • I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of knowing Colin and Dave way back then....although I am a Black Metal artist !.....the quality of 1000 Violins songs are timeless......it was a total crime that this band were'nt absolutely huge.....R.I.P Dave...Never forgotten....

  • Awesome track...

  • Awesome ,,,,,,,,,,,,5 *****

  • Saw them at the Dovecot Arts Centre in Stockton on Tees, UK, in the mid-eighties and they were good. Loved the song titles, certainly gave Morrissey and Sparks some competition in that department. Remember when we all rode bicycles, now we all drive cars - indeed!
