Part 1 of a "superhero" inspired karate demonstration for the 2009 Bill Adams' Martial Arts Black Belt Presentation in Elma, NY, performed live and not-for-profit. The weapons used here (aside from Joker's knife) are real. The actual routine took months of preparation and training, but I'd had this idea in my head for years about performing some kind of superhero routine. The only problem was how to do it without making it look stupid? You can't have one person dressed up as a superhero without a villain who is equally dressed up. The answer was in coming up with a unique version of the Joker, complete with a purple karate gi (the video unfortunately makes it appear dark blue at times) and an unnmarked black belt. While the makeup was inspired by Heath Ledger's Joker in "The Dark Knight," I tried to come up with my own version of the character, which came out as a cross between both Heath and Jack Nicholson in "Batman"-dangerous but comical, almost schizophrenic. Plot summary: Tired of always having his plans ruined by the Batman, Joker decides to track down Batman's dojo, and settle their little feud once and for all, using a student hostage to lure Batman to the fight. This is not a Joker that Batman is used to fighting however, as this Joker can actually keep up with Batman strike for strike...
