Snowy, Sedona Arizona. Shot from the scenic overlook near the Sky Ranch Lodge and Sedona Airport. Snowstorm powders beautiful red rock country with a blanket of white.
It rarely snows in Sedona which sits at 4,400 feet elevation. Each year there might be once or twice that Sedona gets a "dusting." Much less than you see in the video. This is quite a treat.
It was a result of the blizzard that moved through Flagstaff dumping nearly 5 feet of snow in a back to back trio of storms that shut down all roads in or out of Flagstaff for nearly 3 days. We locals affectionately called it the "Snowpacolypse."
The video was shot the day after the roads out of Flagstaff reopened. Flagstaff, at an elevation of more than 7,000 feet, is located about 27 miles north of Sedona. The winding drive through Oak Creek Canyon on 89A takes about 45 minutes at the posted speed limit barring slow moving RVs and people stunned by the beauty around them. 89A remained closed for many days following the blizzards due to rock slides. This meant an extra 30 miles of travel. The route is I-17 south to exit 298 and State Highway 179. It takes about an hour to drive 56 miles.
