Actually the statistic is that it takes approimately 2 minutes for a child to lose consciousness after submersion and 4-6 minutes for irreversible brain damage to occur. Not that those stats are better.

your correct and death underwater is generaly after brain damage is done and your ungs give out and this is generaly after 5 minutes i almost drowned before i researched this and i know how it feels to almost die from water
