I'm an American as well. I went to school near Bangor, ME and we got the CBC affiliate of Montreal, which is CBMT Channel 15.
Dief and JFK just didn't trust each other's agendas, and poor communication and lack of ability to trust each other contributed to bad relations between the two leaders.
I'm an American as well by the way. I went to college in North-Central ME and we got the Montreal affiliate of CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) which is CBMT Channel 15 (when I went to school up there).
Dief and JFK just didn't work together, and Dief also slowed the response on the Cuban Missle Crisis, unlike the United States. They just didn't trust each other's agendas, and that contributed to their bad relations.
Diefenbaker may have had great passion for Canada, but he failed to lead the country forward in ways that it needed. His first Bill of Rights didn't succeed, although it laid the groundwork for future legislation (Prime Minister Trudeau's Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms).
His relations with our country were mixed at best. Dief and Ike worked out very well, but Dief and JFK just couldn't work b/c Diefenbaker was anti-american in a sense.
I'm an American senior in high school who will be majoring in political science this year when I go to college. Though I am American, I have always been intrigued and interested in Canadian political figures, and I have to honestly say that Diefenbaker is my all-time favorite. I wish I couldve had the chance to meet him, from what ive learned about him i've gathered that he was a wonderful man with great pride and patriotism in Canada, something that should be widely respected no matter what.
