I know what you are talking about because i am Half Okinawan and Korean.

I don't like the word Hougen, if you thing of it. It is just saying all the other languages are inferier to other languages

same here. and It's really sad to see how rapidly dialects are diminishing.. I'm Korean and it's really annoying to see people from other province trying to speak in Seoul dialect and being ashamed if I say I like their accent. people should be proud of their dialect :(

uchinaguchi has several dialects, My wife is from Nakadomari, the dialect is different from Naha or Kushi.
Before WWII, Japanese Military tried to eliminate uchinaguchi & people caught speaking in dialect were punished severly & made to wear a sign.
During WWII, anyone caught speaking in dialect were killed as spies.
I listen to the music and understand the feeling of the words and the beauty of the sounds and how it makes my heart feel.

Sorry yyadelj, I disagree with you. I think Uchinaguchi is not a dialect. Is a language... Its grammar is different from Japanese, many words are also different. They might sound similar (like among Italian, Spanish, Portuguese) but that doesn't mean it's not a language. No Japanese would understand someone talking in Uchinaguchi. Therefore, I consider it a language.
