  • And finally, the Confederacy seceded due to the shrinking amount of power the States held and the growing amount of power the Federal Government held. States Right's was the reason for the War. In fact, during the Civil War, there were NORTHERN STATES that were slave holding states. So really, the Union States had slaves longer than the Confederacy.

  • I'm not a southern amreican. Just a guy who likes history. Slavery was definitely a part of the war. But not the sole cause of the war. Thousands of poor white's did not go to fight and die for the rich plantation owners. They did it because they saw a massive army invade there homeland. If you actually speak to confederates today most deeply oppose slavery, and just want an independent southern homeland. Thats it.

  • @Steadno jews=satan...the most evil of all

  • @annamariestacie The only reason why a fatass redneck Republicans win in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Georgia is because people vote along racial lines. Blacks vote Democrat. Whites vote Republicans. Since Mississippi is 64% white, it will always vote Republican from now on.

  • @Texan09

The US Sec. of War at the time of "Bleeding Kansas", was a Southerner who believed that the west was SUBJECT to the Federal government, as dictated by the states, and not entitled to decide the slavery issue for themselves. His name...Jefferson Davis.

LOL...Look up the US Census records from 1860. They break down slave/free populations by state & territory...maybe a handful, NONE in the North. The South had 4 MILLION. Almost half its population.

  • @Texan09

No it didn't . It seceded due to the inability of the South to control US politics, and dictate to the rest of the nation, in regards to the slavery issue...A few years before the outbreak of a broader Civil War, the South used the power of the Federal government to try & force the citizens of Kansas to accept a slave constitution.

When that failed, they fought a border war Kansas for the purpose of settling the matter with armed conflict.

  • Gov. Barbour is a heartless, mindless man. He should have never been granted the opportunity to be in any public eye. He is a terrible representation of life!!! People like him are selfish, ignorant indivduals that feel they are superior to everyone!! Go stick a cucumber up yours barbour...ur not a big deal, just a big screw up!!!

  • @TheMindFarter

Yes and no. Most southerners did not own slaves. But they did get sucked into believing slavery was an acceptable economic system and the war was started by the South both shooting-wise and by trying to leave the union when Lincoln made it clear there would be no *new* slave states.

Most existing slave states rebelled because they couldn't take the idea of slavery not being expanded to new territory.

Slaveholding powerbrokers in slave states pulled their states into the war.

  • confederates = nazis
