South Hobart Vs Glenorchy Knights Rd 2 .

South Hobart edged past Glenorchy Knights today winning 3-1, but their start to the season has not been the one sided affair that preseason competition suggested.
Knights looked up for the challenge and used pace up front to try to trouble the slower South defence.
Knights had their chances on the break with pace up front in Jade Clay and Matthew Nowicki and the team was troubling the normally fluent South midfield
Tom Roach put South ahead midway through the first half when he latched onto a ball into the box from Kostas Kanakaris.
This failed to settle South though and goalkeeper Sam Kruijver was called into action after Knights launched a quick counter shortly after.
The home side went into the break with a 1-0 advantage but the second half held the promise of more drama and it certainly delivered.
Jade Clay equalized for Knights around ten minutes after the restart, triggering a ten-minute period of pressure that they failed to convert into another goal.
A brilliant goal from Kostas Kanakaris put South back on top, the young striker looping a strike out of Ben Peters reach with the outside of his right boot.
Having survived the brief period of pressure South looked to kill off the game and did so when Roach netted his second from a goalmouth scramble.
It could have been a hat-trick for Roach when he headed toward goal late in the game but the strike was cleared off the line.
At the end of the game Knights coach Nick Harrison was left to think about what might have been.
South coach Ken Morton would be happy to have three points in the bag from a game that was anything from smooth sailing and will be hoping for a better performance next week
