They used Hispano Suiza motors in post ww2 surplus 109's when the daimler benz 605's wore out...

@hangarrat101 The 12Y was also built under license by Klimov and no doubt served as a basis for their own 105 series engines, like those used in the magnificent Yak-3.

Hmmm...as to the earlier comment, I have an Amilcar chassis AND a Hispano V8 lurking in the shop... Must give thought to a marriage.

it is indeed a V12, 12X is the model. It was later developed into the 12Y and 12Z, used in various French fighters of the Second World war.

The engine is a V12. From around 40 sec Anthony covers the specs of the engine. Be sure to start from the beginning though to hear the full story!
