Karpov proved his value a lot of times. Those matches, with wins by one point only, show us how they was together.
Kasparov talks a lot about Karpov genials qualities.
I prefer Karpov, but, at this level, a little difference can make the difference.

to bad kasparov won the match it would have been nice to see karpov beat him and win the title at least once

@Ibeagle, Karpov was champion from 1975 to 1985...He lost to Kasparov in 1985 at Moscow.
Lets face it, both men are legends and I personally respect both players! Kasparov vs. Fischer would have been the dream match. (Ok, Fischer vs. Karpov too)
Kasparov and Karpov are clearly equals. The difference in wins is only a couple of games. Overall Kasparov dominated the game during the next few decades.
