A mobile is needed to register the service. After that the app can be used on any iDevice and the web version can be used on any computer that is connected to the internet.

There is also a mobile website for others that do not have an iPhone.

Great when you are overseas and want to send a sms to family and friends or out of credit. I even sent messages on a Cruise!

To send a sms you do not need to be connected to a cellular network. However, you will need a GPRS, 3G or WiFI connection.

I also stress you do not need a iDevice to send free sms, all this can be done in your browser.

I think it costs a once of $2.00 now (someone let me know please) which will be billed to your mobile. When I signed up it was totally free.

the person received it just fine but they can't send a message back (they don't have an iPhone/iPod and are just using a normal phone)
