I agree with you, MadameMusica. The choice of (slow) tempo is extraordinary (given one is able to manage it, but ABM is).

I like this interpretation so much. Without forgetting that this is a "mazurka", Michelangeli is able to embed it in a mood which sounds mostly "nostalgic". I mean"nostalgy" as richness of meaning. I cannot refrain myself from thinking that Michelangely tried to interpret an European-versus strictly Polish will of the composer writing from France, with suggestions coming from South border with Spain. In particular, in the principal b-min theme, I hear echos of Spanish-Mediterranean music,
