Everyone I know who's been to the old park in years past after it closed knew a different hole in the fence to get in. No wonder some idiots were able to burn it down piece by piece over the years. I took a walk through Idora the day after Christmas last week and finally decided to get a big chunk of the Wildcat that was on the ground. Hell, I don't even know what I could possibly do with it. Funny how old memories can come down to a chunk of rotten wood with yellow paint on it. Cool video.

I know someone who grew up on that side of town when the park was closed. She said she truly thought the Idora park ball room was haunted. She could she lights on at 1 oclock in the morning and sometimes even hear music coming from the building when no one was their and the ball room had long been closed.

A devastating fire on April 26, 1984 destroyed the Wild Cat coaster. The replacement of the Wild Cat was estimated at $1.5 million. Park owners acknowledged that the loss of the Wild Cat was disastrous.

The Wild Cat was Idora's biggest attraction. The park operated through the summer of 1984, but with the premier ride gone, a decision was made to close permanently. Idora Park welcomed its last visitors on September 16, 1984.

God Bless, yes I remember Idora Park. My family lived on Winona Drive a short walk to the park and fun filled day of fun. Our summer get away from Akron, OH was all that. Thank you for the memories.

In the summer of 1984, myself and a few friends took a month-long road trip from Chicago to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, spending a day at some of the amusement parks along the way...When we planned the excursion a few months back that year, Idora Park was one of the stops on the list...The tragic fire that partially destroyed the Wildcat changed that...A shame, being that one of the people in our group was originally from the Youngstown Area, and wanted to show us how wild the Wildcat was...

Too bad someone couldn't have stepped up and saved it. Too much of history and the memories that have gone with it have been lost. My wife tells of going here as a girl with her family to enjoy the Polka Dances there. Even Sea World near Cleveland is gone today. Maybe a company somewhere can build anew again on the old site or somewhere near.

Thank you for posting this. When I was a kid, we would come down to the States to visit My Aunt in Youngstown. We'd always go to Idora & Mill Creek Park. The Wild Cat was the best! Sad such a place closed. I even remember the year they ran the Jack Rabbit backwards to try and drum up more visitors.
