HEY!! OVER HERE.. YEAH HERE!! there are only 2 owls in n.america w/ black eyes; the barred owl and the barn owl. obviously that wasn't a barn owl we can all agree on that- so,...... theres your answer. ------------------------------
---------- it's a barred - make no mistake -
This DOES LOOK like a barred owl (Strix varia) or the barred owl's close cousin the spotted owl(Strix occidentalis). The only way to know for sure that its a barred owl is in its "signature hoot". The "WHO COOKS FOR YOU. WHO COOKS FOR YOU ALL" is what most people hear when they listen to the barred owl. Also since the spotted owl is a VERY close cousin the two speicies often or sometimes create a hybrid(Strix varia / occidentalis) and also the hybrid offspring makes odd vocalizations.

I work with barred owls and..... even with the grainy video you can tell it is one. It has the dark pupils, which great grays don't, and you can see the bars on the chest, thus the barred owl name. Hopefully you've also heard some birds (pairs especially) hooting by now. Wild stuff.

This'n's a barred owl for sure.

Most definitely a barred owl. Dark eyes, head plumage proportions, and chest/belly pattern confirms.

weird
This is not a great grey owl, its facial disc is not pronounced nor does it's colororation fit, Grey Owls tend to go from a lighter to darker face, this owl is likely a spotted or a Barred. did it make any vocalizations?

I think it was a Barred owl. Some had been living there.
