Yeah, a lot of people in the modern world (at least a lot of the ones trying to be famous) often have most of maslow's needs filled, so they can move on to worrying about what others think of them. Not sure it's progress, but oh well.

A really nice car is like a red butt or fancy feathers, it will get you laid by gals that like that sort of thing... or guys for that matter! I don't really want to be famous. Though it would be nice to have vast riches and not to worry about basic things: like car repairs, rent, etc... Not to mention if you have a lot of money, you can have willing sex partners pretty much any time you want.

This is true, but as I said, I don't believe people are usually hardwired to think of long-term effects, just immediate gratification. It takes a strong and mature person to fight these impulses, but I believe we all have them.

As for mantis porn, I've never watched any; clearly it would be cruelty to male mantises to do so. :-|
