On her grandparent's Christmas tree, hangs an ornament Carmen made just a few days ago. Little reminders everywhere, but she is now gone, leaving behind three siblings and a large family.
"Christmas is definitely for all the kids, but everybody is suffering. It's just a horrifying accident," said Freddie Hooper, Carmen's grandfather.
On Saturday, Carmen and a cousin were riding a four-wheeler, her little sister and grandparents behind them. But Carmen hit a bump and her cousin fell off. As Carmen leaned back, she hit the throttle and then another bump. The four-wheeler flipped over on top of her.
"I see these things happen," said Justice Of The Peace Mitch Shamburger. "One minute kids are laughing and screaming and having a good time and then in the blink of an eye, or matter of hitting a bump, the next thing you know it's a tragedy. That's why we just need to be careful all the time."
Though she was only 11, Carmen, or "Kermit" as her family called her, knew the importance of helping others, even through small acts. For instance, she collected caps off cans to raise money for cancer patients.
"She cared for others," said Sandra Beaver, a family friend. "She was always taking care of her family and very outgoing. Just a free spirit and she'll be very missed."
With three other children, no insurance, and now trying to cover burial costs, Carmen's family is asking for your help.
"Any help is going to help them and all the prayers they could get are going to help them," said Hooper.
"Their dad's with a logging company and that's about to go to the way-side too so it just hit them in a really bad time," said Beaver.
If you would like to help, a tragedy fund has been set up at all Southside Bank locations. It is under "Carmen Jenkins."
Funeral services are Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church in Rusk. Carmen's parents also decided to donate all of her organs and tissue, in hopes that other lives can be saved.

@fleiva30 I didn't grow up in a time where you had to where seatbelts or helmets or even long pants and boots while riding an ATV. If the parents chose not to properly supervise their children then they will suffer the consequences. That is life and nature and it isn't going to change for some human thought of decency or morality. The parents accepted what level of risk they were willing to take and so did the children. Unfortunately, even children are held accountable for mistakes.
