SwimLanka classes in Navalady/Kallady, Batticaloa. Filmed on 14th May 2009, the video shows the pool location in Kallady Batticaloa.
The village of Navalady was completely destroyed by the Tsunami and lost 80% of the fishing population in the village (the highest number of deaths in Batticaloa). It is surrounded by a lagoon on one side and the sea on the other. After the Tsunami few families have returned to the village but still they fear the sea, the others have been located permanently in Thiraimadu away from the coast.
SwimLanka's aim is to offer free swimming classes to children regardless of religious background, ethnic origin or physical disability. Helping children around the coast of Sri Lanka has always been the cornerstone of the trust and whether the children are displaced, disabled or unable to swim; we will endeavor to change the local opinion of the importance of water confidence.
Swimlanka would like to thank Terre des hommes and Swiss Solidarity for their continued support. We would also like to give a warm thank you and congratulations to the children of Kallady!
