THE ART WOODS : UK R&B group founded by Art Wood, brother of Ron Wood of Rolling Stones and Faces fame. Formed after Art's spell with Alexis Korner's 'Blues Incorporated', the Artwoods became a popular part of the London R&B scene. Although they had their moments in the media, the Artwoods never had a hit.

"Sweet Mary"
b/w "If I Ever Get My Hands On You"
(UK Decca F12015) - 1964.

Very rare 45rpm by classic 1960's Beat / R&B / Mod band which featured JON LORD pre-DEEP PURPLE

  • Sounds like The Animals to me if I didn't know better.

  • Very cool for 1964! Kind of a mixture of blues-rock and garage-rock with a slightly psychedelic sound.

PS: Owners of exported European 45s must have HATED those rectangular things that started passing for 45 adapters in the late 60s. I can't imagine the record in the picture (with the knockout snapped out) working well with one.

  • John Lord (Deep Purple) Keyboards.... no a lot of people know that :)

  • Trop bon !

  • Check out:

Artwoods rare BBC 1967 with Jon Lord

  • I think it was in 1964 I heard them plying at "Bakken" near Copenhagen. Brillant! I was twelve then - now I'm 56 - several times I went to this amusement place to listnen to them - yeah and also THEM and the "Other Them" giggle that was the good old times ... greetings from a danish girl, Barbara

  • That's GREAT, man! Regardless, that's great! Anybody can say anything but this SONG to just be on here is so GREAT! I'm so lucky BeyondTheBeatGeneration (an e-station that plays underground 60's music) played this song when they did. Ahhh god it's so beautiful. Cheers to Malcolm!

  • The excellent Artwoods, a fav band of the 60s, they should have been huge!!
