    From a river, as a very small juvenile, just a few millimeters long.

  • are there any color full cold water fish?, i have a 55 gal tank in my basement, but i dont have the coin to get a good heater yet

    No, neither the barbel nor the other fish in this tank have Ichthyophthiriose (or any other desease). They're all healthy.

  • Sounds strange, but really happened. I was standing in the river and collected a huge bundle of valisneria by also using my hand nets. The plants came into buckets filled with water. I later found a lot of freshwater shrimp and a few very little fish in it. One of them was the barbel (but it took a few month until it was big enough to see what fish it really is).

  • Incidentally, how DO you collect water plants to the extent of accidentally catching a barble?
