There's a scene that's missing, where the Jamisons are discussing Custer's insistance on seeing "that lady" again:
MAJOR JAMISON: "Nancy, I simply cannot cope with him any longer. We need professional help for your son!"
MRS. JAMISON: "MY son? YOU'RE the one who ordered me to have a boy!"
MAJOR JAMISON: (in disgust) "Uh-uh...not THIS one.."

CUSTER: "But he didn't!"
MAJOR JAMISON: "Well, he did to my satifaction, you'll understand when you're older, now come along..!"
See, Custer's mother and father KNOW someone's in the kitchen- it's just that they don't know what "she" really is!!
