@pacmandem it is a native term, an old one, and it does bascially mean a silly/foolish person. It's more of an old slang term though. Type 'clot silly person' into google and the first few links should provide various definitions and proof.

@Heidiguard I'm a 'native' speaker. Born and raised in England and I've never EVER heard that. I think people were too eager for an explanation and thumbed up that comment without requesting a source...
